If run-of-the-mill automation games are just a bit too cosy for you, then Beltfed – Roguelike Factory Defense might be a game to put on your wishlist, because in this one you’re not just trying to optimise; you’re trying to build a factory capable of wiping out huge swarms of giant insects.

Hello World Studios is the developer behind this ambitious-sounding game, and the plan is to bring it to PC (Win) at some point in 2027. The new Steam page for Beltfed is also now live, so head over and do the whole wishlisting thing, should the thought of building an automated death factory sound like your idea of a good time.

Beltfed – Roguelike Factory Defense is exactly what it says on the tin, a factory game built around tower defense mechanics, and then held together with a roguelike progression loop. It sounds like there’ll be mid-run upgrade cards to keep things fresh, and you’ll unlock new tech to use in future runs.

The game has you playing as a rogue AI, building intricate factories that then rain fire upon massive swarms of insects. I’m not sure why you’ve gone rogue, but you’ll be taking your rampant AI self to various planets, each with its own challenges and rules.

In a game like this, I’m always intrigued by the vast scales that developers aim for, and Beltfed is no different. We’re promised “insane amounts of enemies on screen at once, with kill counts reaching the millions in a single run.”

If you want to see Beltfed – Roguelike Factory Defense in action, there’s a trailer below that shows off the scale of the insect hordes, and I have to say, it’s impressive stuff, and I look forward to taking a deeper dive when the time comes.

Still with me? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked roguelikes, this website is absolutely chock-full of them. Head over to the Guides Page for a concentrated hit of roguish games, organised via sub-genre and platform.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
