If demos are your thing, then you’re eating well right now. We’ve just had Steam Next Fest, and now, just after that, we’re getting an alpha test for something uniquely interesting: CultGame.
This cult simulator RPG ticks an awful lot of boxes for me personally. Not only am I utterly fascinated by cults and the people who get lost in them, but I’m also a sucker for proc-gen worlds and ASCII art. I feel like the stars might be aligning for me on this one.

CultGame is set in a procedurally-generated fantasy world, wherein you must perform dark rituals and bring followers into your flock. It sounds like your beliefs are represented via perks and upgrades, and indie devs Bucephalus Studios have you trying to worm your way into positions of authority within the wider world generated by the game.
The new alpha demo is out today, on October 27th, and it gives you the fully simulated world to explore, but only for 36 turns – that’s three years of in-game time with which to build your cult and explore the game’s many interactions.
The alpha demo will also include “10 levels of belief upgrades, rival religion AI that competes with you, crusading of caves, dating, and many more systems with their initial visions.”
Finally, CultGame is playable on PC (Lin, Win), so head over to Steam to download the demo and/or get it wishlisted if you’re into the idea of bringing misery down on all those filthy non-believers.
