A roguelike mode has been added to oldschool-style Lovecraftian RPG, Cyplopean: The Great Abyss.

Schmidt Workshops is blending the old with the new (or should I say Old Ones?) with the addition of a roguelike mode for Cyclopean: The Great Abyss, adding a greater level of difficulty and replayability.

In the howling void of the abyss, one writhing, squirming and above all, indescribable horror has caught my attention. Cyclopean: The Great Abyss. With this Lovecraft inspired CRPG receiving a roguelike mode it has innevitably drawn the ever watchful eye of Rogueliker.

Just like the classics in the genre, such as Ultima and Questron, Cyclopean shifts from an overhead third person perspective in the overworld, to a gritty first person perspective as you explore the horror filled dungeons of the mysterious Great Abyss.

Where Cyclopean: The Great Abyss really shines for me, is in its presentation. Its retro monochromatic style not only plays homage to the games it was inspired by, but goes a long way towards crafting a chilling and haunting atmosphere.

With the optional roguelike mode now added, Cyclopean: The Great Abyss looks to have the potential for a long life following its full release on July 17th on Windows PC.
