I’m going to start to try and cover more breaking news here on Rogueliker, and that includes today’s announcement that promising deckbuilder Dark Sky has just got a release date!
The day to mark in the old diary is September 24, as that’s when Dark Sky is landing on PC Steam and GOG (you can wishlist it here).
If all goes to plan, we’ll be able to play what looks to be a stylish and carefully constructed roguelike deckbuilder with distinctive hand-drawn art and an emphasis on tactical grid-based encounters, card-centric combat, and party management / RPG elements.
If the game looks familiar, it looks like the game was originally announced with a different name, so please bear in mind that you might have first encountered this when it was called Xenotheria.
I’ve not had the pleasure of playing this one yet but it certainly looks like my cup of tea (check out my recent article on roguelike deckbuilders for more games like this one), and if all goes well I’ll have something to report on Dark Sky come late September!
Now, check out the trailer…

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.
Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!
Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.
Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.
Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2 | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
