I was quite surprised to discover that Deadzoned has just hit 1.0 on PC. I know that developer caiys doesn’t like to mess about too much when it comes to Early Access, but I was expecting it to take slightly longer than two months.
Deadzoned is a turn-based roguelike with a bleak sci-fi setting, and the same trademark visual style that the developer has become known for. If you’re familiar with the excellent Voids Vigil, you’ll know roughly what to expect here.
That said, when it comes to gameplay, the dev’s two most recent games couldn’t be more different from one another. Voids Vigil is a tightly-controlled bullet heaven. Deadzoned is a focused roguelike about fighting bandits and beasties in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
I played a bit of Deadzoned when it first hit Early Access back in September, and I had absolutely planned to play some more and do a full review. The quick turnaround by the developer has scuppered my plans, so I’m just going to leave you with the knowledge that the game is out now and it’s good, but I want to play some more before sharing any deeper opinions.
Finally, a quick word on what’s in the 1.0 update. caiys has confirmed two new classes have been added, both of which have wicked names (The Psycho Possessed and The Bald Monk). There are also three new bosses to battle, plus new weapons, talents, and events, as well as a bunch of quality-of-life changes. You’ll find all the relevant details over on the Deadzoned Steam page.
