As I rummaged through my inbox in search of treasure, one of the gems to emerge from Coffee Stain’s Big Break Showcase was a double-barreled blast of Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor news.

Regular readers will know that DRG: Survivor is one of my favourite bullet heavens, because while it does borrow elements from Vampire Survivors, it also makes great use of the Deep Rock Galactic license and does its own thing, too.

DRG: Survivor started life on PC and Xbox before burrowing its way onto mobile devices. Now Funday Games and Ghost Ship Publishing are completing the full set by bringing the game to PS5 (on October 7th) and Nintendo Switch 1+2 (on October 9th).

That’s cool, especially if you’ve been patiently awaiting the game on either of those platforms. However, the thing that caught my interest was the announcement of the game’s next expansion.

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor Knockout Expansion

The upcoming expansion for DRG: Survivor is called Knockout, and the title alludes to the contents you’ll find therein, namely the new Brawler class, which you can see in the image below.

This little fella has metal fists and a melee focus, and I can’t wait to meet him properly, whenever that may be. Just look at him!

I’m also looking forward to digging into the game’s new biome: the Sandblasted Corridors. This new area is aimed at experienced players looking for a challenge via its “mineral-providing sand twisters, looming underground stabba vines, and exploding spore plants.”

And finally, the last major addition is a new mission type to sprinkle in a bit more variety. In Brood Harvest, players will battle a Dreadnought Empress who spawns minions that form a shield wall around her.

You can see the new reveal trailer for the Knockout Expansion below, although it doesn’t confirm a release date beyond “coming soon.”

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
