It has been tough keeping track of all the interesting new games coming out of Cologne, but one that managed to catch my eye was Grind Survivors, which was first shown during Awesome Indies.
Grind Survivors is the work of Ukranian outfit Pushka Studios. This is a team that has had a hand in porting a bunch of games to different platforms, including some that I’ve played recently (Spider Heck and Phantom Abyss), but until now they’ve never been the lead dev.
While the name they’ve chosen doesn’t really reveal all that much about the game, digging a little deeper reveals an ambitious project in the works. For example, the plan is to bring Grind Survivors to both PC and consoles next year, with the studio using their experience with ports to bring the title to multiple platforms.
When it does arrive, it’ll do so with a blend of “bullet-hell combat, dynamic character builds, and procedurally generated loot.” All music to my ears. In fact, there are a couple of evocative examples mentioned in the presser, with everything from “cursed relics to demon-scorched shotguns” potentially on the crafting table.
The presser also details multiple biomes (“scorched cities, burning forests, and hellish arenas”) and relentless waves of hellspawn. There’s also mention of a Forge in the hub world where you’ll be able to upgrade and combine your weapons, which sounds like it’ll give some substance to the time you spend between runs.
If that all sounds like your thing, check out the announcement trailer for Grind Survivors below, and wishlist it over on Steam (where you can also sign up for the ongoing playtest).
