If, like me, you’ve played a whole bunch of Hades 2 since it launched earlier this year, then you’ll be delighted to hear that Supergiant has just dropped the first big update for the game.
The trailer immediately below gives you a more cinematic overview, but it’s clear that this is a huge update that’s full of new content alongside plenty of tweaks and changes.
The Olympic Update introduces loads of new stuff that we’ll detail below, so if you want to find everything for yourself, stop reading now and head to Steam/Epic and start the update.
For the rest of you, here are the highlights, as grabbed from Supergiant’s website, where they summed up the update thus:
- Battle across the surface through an all-new Region where the gods themselves are desperate for your aid! Can you vanquish the deadly new Guardian?
- Unlock the last of the Nocturnal Arms: Xinth, the Black Coat, a devastating new weapon with its own unique Aspects!
- Spruce up the Crossroads with dozens of unlockable decorations and music tracks, adding a personal touch to your home between the realms!
- Meet two new Allies! Gain their blessings, learn their secrets, and use their unique Keepsakes!
- Bond with two new Animal Familiars, loyal companions who will serve you through thick and thin!
- Feeling tough? Take on new Challenges, including new Vows for the Oath of the Unseen, and the mysterious new Moon Monument and Unseen Sigil!
- Discover more of the story, with close to 2,500 new voice lines for the game’s big, colorful cast!
- This update also adds native support for Mac systems with Apple M1 or later, numerous quality-of-life improvements, plenty of new art and audio, and other little surprises we’re excited for you to find!
Much to my delight, you can get the full patch notes read to you by the game’s narrator, so if you’d like to have everything broken down into specifics over the best part of half an hour, grab a hot drink and get comfortable.
What next for Hades 2?
Before you get stuck into masterful delivery of the patch notes, the final headlines worth highlighting are that the next major update is now expected to drop in early 2025, and when that update does land, it will not be the last…
The studio shared several additional details in a follow-up post, noting that future updates will focus on the following:
- Climactic Confrontation: What awaits further beyond the newly-added Region? Once we add that, we will consider the main structure of the Surface Route to be complete.
- New Boons: Boons are integral to the experience of Hades II, so we have some more additions planned on this front. Surely the Olympians deserve no less!
- New Foes: We plan to add even more combat encounter variety. Having lots of exciting and varied encounters helps keep Hades II feeling fresh for as long as you play it.
The studio signs off by confirming an early 2025 launch for the next update. They think it’ll take them around five months or less, so that’s March-ish next year if all goes to plan!
