As I worked through a whole ton of announcements that aren’t relevant to us, one little ray of sunshine appeared in my inbox overnight, and that’s the announcement of a third mainline game in the Kingdom series.

This innovative side-scrolling series blends city building and light strategy together with lovely pixel-art graphics. This potent combination has helped the series stay popular over the years. Now, the next entry has just been announced, and it’s called Kingdom III: Rising Realms.

Developed by an in-house team within indie publisher Raw Fury (they’re called Fury Studios), Rising Realms takes the gameplay into a new island setting, and as you can see from the screenshot above, it retains the past games’ signature visual style and side-scrolling gameplay loop.

“We’re bringing the world of Kingdom into a new era,” writes creative director Angelica Norgren, who explains that we can expect “new strategies, mystical artefacts, and fabled creatures await; all painted in a gorgeous, elevated pixel art style.”

If you want to see moving pictures of this elevated pixel art style in action, there’s also a trailer that landed alongside the announcement, and you can see that below.

It’s at the end of the trailer where you’ll see confirmation of platforms, but I’m going to spoil that climactic moment for you now. Kingdom III: Rising Realms is set to launch next year on PC (Win), PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
