Hear ye, hear ye, Dear Reader, the cat-tastic tactics game, Mewgenics, is following up on its PC launch earlier this year with a cross-platform console release today, on September 8th, 2026.

I mentioned that Mewgenics is the next game by The Binding of Isaac creator Edmund McMillen, and he created this new standalone tactics game with Tyler Glaiel, who we interviewed earlier this year.

Mewgenics, as implied by the title, has a eugenics angle, as you must breed your best cats and pass their traits through to the next generation of kittens. If that sounds weird, you would be 100% correct in your estimation, but it’s a feature, not a flaw, and the whole thing is a bunch of fun.

All three console versions have normal controls as well as mouse and keyboard support. Switch 2 has touchscreen support, and you can use your DualSense Touch Pad on your PS5. It’s also worth noting that the new console versions of the game also offer cross-save with the PC version via the Steam Cloud.

If you’re on the fence and need convincing, then check out our Mewgenics review for a deeper opinion. If you’re planning to pick up the game and you want a helping hand, our beginner’s guide should help you get started!

Finally, the official bit: Mewgenics has been out on PC (Win) since February 10th, and is now out on PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X. It costs $39.99 / £32.99 or regional equivalent.

If you’d rather wait until you can hold the game in your actual hands, there are physical versions of Mewgenics coming to PS5 and Switch 2, likely in Q1 2027.

Still with me? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked roguelikes, this website is absolutely chock-full of them. Head over to the Guides Page for a concentrated hit of roguish games, organised via sub-genre and platform.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
