Hot on the heels of celebrating ten years since launch, Hello Games has just dropped a massive update for No Man’s Sky. It’s called Cosmos, and it sounds like an absolute treat for both existing players and, indeed, anyone yet to enjoy the game.

Update 7.0 – or Cosmos – is not only a curated tour through the highlights of the last ten years, but it also represents a massive update to one element of the game that has been surprisingly undernourished: space itself.

Check out the new deep-dive trailer for all the latest, although I’ve tried to sum up the highlights for you below, too.

The studio has added a ton of new stuff, including a new Star Map to get you into the action more frequently. Once you’re in the game, you’ll also be able to strip down hulking great space hulks, visit stars, form alliances, and even buy your own space station!

Trade will take place at the new space outposts (although some of them will be contaminated – you have been warned). As you can see in the screenshot below, you’ll even be able to build modular bases in asteroid fields.

Space station ownership “must be our most requested feature since launch… finally, players can […] can create your own themed Station, as your own clubhouse and have friends come and visit.”

These new hangouts will also form part of the new Alliance system, which sounds like potentially the biggest shakeup of the lot – we’ll have to wait and see.

“As an alliance, you can work together to build a networked empire of different stations and rise the new leaderboards to compete for the largest, richest or most prominent alliance,” the devs explained.

I’ve told you all that, and yet I have still managed to save the best for last. The update lands alongside a new expedition called “Our Journey Continues!”, with each milestone representing a different major content update. If you’re a long-standing fan, it sounds like a unique way to celebrate the game.

This is yet another free content update, so all existing players can jump in and enjoy the fresh content in Cosmos right now, and that’s across all platforms (PC, PS, Switch, and Xbox). That being so, I’m sending you to neutral ground for the patch notes.

Still with me? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked roguelikes, this website is absolutely chock-full of them. Head over to the Guides Page for a concentrated hit of roguish games, organised via sub-genre and platform.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
