I’ve got a quick update for you this evening, as there’s some fantastic news for sci-fi nerds on mobile: No Man’s Sky is heading to iOS devices at the end of the month. (Alas, there’s no word on a potential Android version just yet.)

This is a big deal because No Man’s Sky offers a literal galaxy full of planets to explore, so getting the file size down to a mere 3.8GB is nothing short of impressive.

Compatibility-wise, No Man’s Sky will run on iPhone 11 and 3rd-generation iPad Air and above, although the more juice you can give it, the better.

In terms of what you can expect to find in the iOS version of NMS: almost everything is in there except multiplayer. On top of that, there are reworked controls for touchscreen users, and the devs have put some effort into “battery life and thermodynamics” so it can be enjoyed for “long comfortable play sessions.”

“Similar to our Switch 1 launch, there are some limitations,” the studio confirmed in the announcement blog. “Planetary Settlements are supported on iPhone 15 Pro and above, and multiplayer is not supported. On Switch, we listened to players and built from there, eventually leading to a much expanded version on Switch 2.”

No Man’s Sky will also arrive on the App Store on October 29 (everyone is reporting October 28 but my App Store page says the 29th) and it’ll do so with a cargo hold full of content. All of the major expansions are included in the one-time purchase of USD 19.99, which is only a little more than I paid for it on Steam a few years ago.

That’s a premium price in the mobile space, but considering the amount of game in No Man’s Sky, and the work that must have gone into getting it running on older iPhones, I think Hello Games has got it just about right.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
