There are a whole bunch of new games coming out, so you’ll have to forgive me for not dwelling too long on a pre-release demo, but I did have a little look at Pathogenic early this week, and I was quite pleased with it after my first hands-on.
This top-down twin-stick shooter from Aberrant Labs is a fun exploration of micro bacterial warfare, and after watching a fair few episodes of Kurzgesagt with my own disease vectors children, I see similarities in the clean and crisp presentation of Pathogenic.
All the action takes place in a procedurally-generated human body. As an infection attacking said body, you’ll have to evolve and adapt if you want a chance against the host’s immune system.
Your ability to compete and survive happens via the addition of new features, which in turn help you fight increasingly challenging foes. All the time you’re exploring deeper into the body, looking for power-ups and eventually getting in fights against bosses.
I was already planning on finding a moment to tell you about this one, but last night’s update sealed the deal for me. As of November 6, you can now play through a tutorial, plus there are two new weapons in the game (the Stinger Tendril and Pressurized Spicule, respectively).

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.
Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.
Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2 | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
