While I found tonight’s Triple-i Initiative showcase a little light on exciting new roguelikes and roguelites (aside from one very notable exception), it still delivered by offering a glimpse at some exciting future content for some of our favourite games.

With more than 45 minutes of back-to-back world premieres, trailers, and gameplay reveals, we’ve narrowed things down to the most essential announcements in the roguelike space.

World premiere of Don’t Starve Elsewhere

The game I was teasing above happened to be Don’t Starve Elsewhere, the third instalment in the Don’t Starve series.

This new co-op survival outing is said to feature all-new biomes which have their own distinct climates. Sadly, no release window has been revealed for this one at the time of writing.

Brotato’s second DLC Primal Dread is revealed

With Abyssal Terrors being revealed at the same event last year, we had a sneaking suspicion that Evil Empire would reveal a new DLC.

Arriving at some point in 2026, Primal Dread will add cyber-enhanced dinosaurs to the spud-powered rogue as well as the usual bells and whistles like new weapons, characters, and items.

Hallowed Concepts is the next DLC for Risk of Rain 2

Another one of our favourite rogues to receive a shiny new DLC expansion was Risk of Rain 2.

Hallowed Concepts is said to take players deeper into the cult-like world of N’Kuhana. To survive, they will need to overcome powerful curses, strange new enemies, and deadly trials. The DLC will contain two new survivors as well as two new areas to explore.

We don’t yet have a release date for Hallowed Concepts, but we know it will be arriving on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.

Warhammer Survivors is heading to consoles

I had my fingers crossed for a confirmed release date for Warhammer Survivors, but I suppose confirmation that it’s coming to consoles is still a pleasant – if slightly underwhelming – surprise.

We now know that the Survivors-like will be making its way to PS5, Switch, Switch 2 and Xbox Series as well as PC. The main question that still remains, however, is when.

Clover Pit’s Unholy Fusion DLC is shadowdropped

Whilst many of the above announcements didn’t come with release dates, one that you can play right now is Clover Pit’s Unholy Fusion DLC.

This expansion introduces the Surgery Machine, a new device that allows you to fuse charms together to create a more powerful trinket. It’s said to include 30 fusion charms, 11 new charms, and much more.

Lost Castle 2 is leaving Early Access on June 11th

The colourful beat em’ up sequel Lost Castle 2 was also confirmed to be leaving Early Access on June 11th.

I’ll be honest, I’m pretty unfamiliar with the game and its predecessor, but its animated trailer reminded me a lot of Absolum. If you like what you see, the game currently has a 20% discount on Steam.

Rift of the NecroDancer receives Undertale Music Pack

Finally, as we reported in greater detail earlier, Rift of the NecroDancer has just received a new music pack with songs from Undertale.

The pack contains six tracks from legendary composer Toby Fox including the fan-favourite Megalovania. Spider Dance is also available as a FREE track for owners of the base game.

The Best Roguelike Games: great roguelites, deckbuilders, RPGs, bullet heavens, and more

Next, there are genre-specific lists that delve into the best roguelike games of all types. I’ve pulled out the best examples from each category, alongside the links to more in-depth articles!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.

Great bullet heavens and auto-shooters: Vampire Survivors | There could be only one choice for this category, given how all other games are called survivors-likes for a reason!

Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.

Brilliant roguelite top-down and third-person shooters: Returnal | Bit of a broad one, but with our other favourite action-roguelites featured elsewhere, we were obliged to mention Returnal here.

Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.

Strategy Roguelikes: FTL Faster Than Light | Another classic roguelike that we’re still playing years after launch.

Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2  | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
