Vampire Survivors: Emergency Meeting is the first collab DLC for Poncle’s game bullet heaven, and the studio has partnered with another indie darling to making it happen: Among Us dev InnerSloth!

The collab means Vampire Survivors is getting nine new playable characters based on the iconic Among Us character design.

On top of that, we’re getting 15 new weapons (with seven evolutions), a new stage, a new Adventure (more on that shortly), plus new music and achievements. It’s launching on PC on December 18, and will cost a trifling $2.49 / €2.49 / £1.99.

You can wishlist it over on Steam, but it looks like the DLC is heading to all relevant platforms at the same time, except Nintendo Switch and mobile – those versions will follow later.

Those nine new characters, direct from Steam

I’ve lifted the character bios directly from Steam. There is also a description of the new map and I’ve added an image showing said map in more detail.

Crewmate Dino – Starry-eyed, optimistic, and unfortunately extremely tasty. Dino is a jack-of-all-trades who boosts stats whenever a task is completed (i.e. when you level up a weapon).

Engineer Gino – Few Crewmates come as close to truly competent task-work as Gino, who offers a selection of passive weapons from their toolbox every few levels.

Ghost Lino – Good Crewmates don’t let a silly thing like death get in the way of their tasks. Lino can float through walls at will and can’t be hurt, but can’t deal damage either… what could be the goal of such suspicious game design?!

Shapeshifter Nino – Look at this bean! They can do all kinds of… wait, where did they go? And where did this snowman come from? Oh well, I’m sure you’ll figure it out.

Guardian Pina – Everyone needs an angel on their shoulder. Pina isn’t just there for moral support, though – they boost the defences of all nearby allies, and they love taking out the garbage.

Impostor Rina – A fellow Crewmate that is in no way some kind of duplicitous, well-disguised killer. One hundred percent all-natural-bean, right here. Nothing to see or think about.

Scientist Mina – Mina’s scientific skill is matched only by their intense clumsiness. Thankfully, dropping potentially hazardous chemicals has a major upside when you’re besieged by extra-terrestrial monsters.

Among Us fans will already be well aware of the scientific base on Polus. The Steam listing includes a bunch of amusing details:

This planet is packed with bizarre biomes ripe for exploration by Survivors and Crewmates, with tasks and treasure chests galore. Unfortunately, its also accidentally being invaded by your average space dwellers, like aliens, robots, and ducks. Expect the unexpected and do NOT trust the bins. Never trust the bins. Or the chicken nuggets. In fact, it’s a good idea to remain alert at all times and not trust anything.

Adventure Mode – Patch 1.8

On top of that, the studio dropped Adventures as part of Patch 1.8, which is out now this very minute. This is the new game mode for Vampire Survivors that we’ve been waiting for, and there is loads to unpack. I’m mostly going to defer to the original source to save time and confusion.

Here’s what you need to know, although you can head to the official FAQ if you’ve got follow up questions:

  • 1 relic, Atlas Gate: Enables base game Adventures. Found in Boss Rash, minute 7
  • 1 new achievement for obtaining the Atlas Gate (in-game only. Will be added to the list on Steam together with the next content patch, your 100% is safe for the rest of the year!)
  • 2 base game Adventures
  • 1 Adventure for the Legacy of the Moonspell DLC

The developer then goes on to dig deeper into what the new Adventures will offer to players. Simply put, they’re self-contained mini campaigns that remix the game’s content, boosting replayability. Here some interesting asides shared on Steam:

Please know that there are no platform (Steam, Xbox, etc.) achievements for Adventures, but you can unlock base game content from them as normal (eg. if an Adventure sends you to Astral Stair, you can loot the relics in there and unlock them ahead of the standard game progression).

Things that unlock new game mechanics, like Relics, Arcanas, unlocked Power-Ups, and pickups count, carry over to Adventures.

We have 2+1 adventures for now:
– Two are unlocked by collecting the Atlas Gate relic mentioned above.
– Then there’s the Legacy of the Moonspell adventure that gets unlocked if you have the relative DLC.
DLC Adventures becomes accessible only after visiting the Dairy Plant once.

Still with us? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked rogues, the following articles represent a huge collection of the best roguelike games ever made.

The Best Roguelike Games: great roguelites, deckbuilders, RPGs, bullet heavens, and more

Next, there are genre-specific lists that delve into the best roguelike games of all types. I’ve pulled out the best examples from each category, alongside the links to more in-depth articles!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.

Great bullet heavens and auto-shooters: Vampire Survivors | There could be only one choice for this category, given how all other games are called survivors-likes for a reason!

Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.

Brilliant roguelite top-down and third-person shooters: Returnal | Bit of a broad one, but with our other favourite action-roguelites featured elsewhere, we were obliged to mention Returnal here.

Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.

Strategy Roguelikes: FTL Faster Than Light | Another classic roguelike that we’re still playing years after launch.

Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2  | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
