Against the Storm, the roguelike city builder from Eremite Games, is set to make an appearance on tabletops after a new adaptation of the fantasy video game was just announced by publisher Hooded Horse.
Mindclash Games is the board game studio tasked with bringing Against the Storm to the table, and given the proc-gen elements and roguelite gameplay loop that defines AtS, this is no small feat, I think.
According to the announcement, Mindclash is working on a game that can be played standalone, but is also replayable thanks to a campaign mode “where players must uncover the mysteries of the Blightstorm through each successive run, and seek out a way to stop it for good.”

It’s also worth noting that Against the Storm: The Board Game can be played solo or with up to four players, if you’ve got some co-op buddies eager to try the game with you.
The announcement highlights a number of Euro game features coming to Against the Storm, including worker placement, resource management, and city building. Players will also need to explore the world around them and the game’s various economic systems if they’re going to prevail.
“Getting the chance to adapt one of my favourite strategy video games is both a real honour and an exciting new endeavour for our studio,” Mindclash chief Viktor Péter wrote.
“Against the Storm is such a clever, distinctive game, full of personality and novel ideas – its spirit feels very much at home with the kind of games we love to make at Mindclash. Capturing what makes it special on the tabletop is a fun challenge, and I hope the result will feel just as special to fans of the video game as it does to our own.”
You and me both, Viktor.
The board game adaptation of Against the Storm is still some way off, with the funding campaign not due to start until next year via Gamefound.
