Ball x Pit was already one of our favourite rogues of 2025, but the folks at Kenny Sun and Friends could help but make it better and better.
The game’s first big FREE update The Regal Update landed this January and added two new characters, new balls and new passives. Now, the team have announced that a second major free update will be releasing next week on April 27th.
The Shadow Update’s biggest features are the addition of two new characters, 11 balls, four new passives, and one new building. The two characters include The Tunneller, a scrappy miner who’s shots can warp around the screen, and The Tiptoer, a fragile but deadly ninja who can stay undetected by enemies at close range.
The new building, The Guild Hall, sounds incredibly handy, allowing you to re-roll your previously chosen character upgrades. I also like the sound of some of the new balls including one that stacks up venom with each hit and another that freezes time momentarily. You can find a full breakdown of the new additions in the following PlayStation Blog.
Mike reviewed the game when it first launched on PC last October. In his review, he said: “I have to say, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Ball X Pit, and I’m going to keep chipping away at it, I reckon. It combines the zen flow of a survivors-like with the arcade action of Breakout, and I’m totally here for this combo.”

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.
Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.
