Avid readers, and there are a couple of you, I’m sure, will already be aware of BELTFED – Roguelike Factory Defense, which I reported on last month after it was first announced by Hello World Games.

This strategy roguelite has you playing as a rogue AI, and your job is to turn yourself into a literal killing machine designed to wipe out nasty alien bugs. It’s essentially a factory-automation game about smiting an entire alien species while protecting your inner Nexus from destruction.

It’s a roguelite, so some progression carries over even upon death, with new weapons, buildings, upgrades, and Nexus cores added to the draft for future attempts.

That’s the stuff we already knew about, but the news today is that the strategy roguelike game from Hello World has just got a publisher, and it’s the lovely folks over at Hooded Horse.

“We played BELTFED, and it’s incredibly fun,” Hooded Horse CEO Tim Bender confirmed. “The trailer rocks and has got people excited, but the game itself is going to knock their socks off.”

Meanwhile, Hello World Studios Lead Designer Toby Atkinson, who may or may not be a rogue AI masquerading as a game dev, also added to the statement:

“I’m a lifelong strategy fan, and Hooded Horse has published some of my favourite games over the years. They know the genre inside out, so having them as BELTFED’s publisher is as good as it gets for us.”

Signing with Hooded Horse must have happened pretty quickly after the announcement last month, and the move was no doubt helped by the viral trailer below, which has amassed 1.7 million views so far and likely persuaded the strategy publisher that Beltfed, which is coming to PC (Win) in 2027, is a game worth getting behind.

Still with me? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked roguelikes, this website is absolutely chock-full of them. Head over to the Guides Page for a concentrated hit of roguish games, organised via sub-genre and platform.

What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends as well as fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
