I have to say that I did not see this one coming, with Red Hook Studios today announcing that there is a new DLC expansion coming to Darkest Dungeon this summer. Yes, you read that right: the first Darkest Dungeon is getting some new content in 2026.
It’s called The Fire’s Edge; it adds characters and mechanics from the second game, it’s coming to all platforms, and its release date is August 18th, for most people anyway.
The expansion features two characters from DD2, The Duelist and The Runaway, plus the burn mechanic from Darkest Dungeon II has also been retrofitted into the original.

The Fire’s Edge will also include new districts, the Academie Duello, Craftworks, and Archaeological Base Camp. You can also expect to find new trinkets, story content, events, and even a few surprises – I’m not sure what that means, but I’m excited/scared.
As mentioned above, the PC (Lin, Mac, Win), PlayStation, and Nintendo versions of the game will be getting the new content on August 18, with Xbox versions to follow.
Finally, as mentioned in the press release for this announcement, this year marks the 10th anniversary of the first game. If you’d like to read more about why I love it so much, my Darkest Dungeon retrospective should see you right.
