Ok this one is weird. Quite unprompted, last night, I booted up Entropy Survivors shortly before bed. It was recommended to me as a possible game to include in my article about the best roguelikes for kids.
While not a roguelike, Entropy Survivors is an auto-shooter bullet heaven roguelite with a zany sense of humour, optional co-op, and an out-of-this-world setting. In it, you play a frog surfing on a walking mecha – and it only gets sillier from there.
What I didn’t realise, when booting up the game last night, was that this was happening shortly before a big update was due as part of a milestone, with Entropy Survivors enjoying its first birthday!
The press release I looked at earlier notes that the update should be out now, but at the time of writing this missive, it hasn’t appeared on Steam. Therefore, at this stage, all I can tell you is that it adds a hard mode and associated challenges and unlocks.
The mentioned price drop is in place on console (I checked on Xbox), although the upcoming 65% discount coming to PC isn’t going live until a big Bullet Heaven 3.0 event on Steam. More on that tomorrow!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.
Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!
Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.
Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.
Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2 | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
