Hades II is my most anticipated game, and I bet it’s much the same for many of you. I’ve already started tracking the game’s progress in these articles about the Hades 2 release date and the game’s story – I’m fully invested.

If you’ve been in a deep slumber for the past few years, Hades II is the follow-up to an incredible action-RPG set in the Greek underworld. In fact, for what it’s worth, it was the game the rekindled my love for video games after my interest had started to fade.

That being so, I just voted for Hades II in The Game Awards this year, after the game was nominated in the TGA’s Most Anticipated Game category. Update: it didn’t win. Keep scrolling down for all the gossip!

And the Most Anticipated Game of 2024 is…

The winner is… drum roll please…

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

This story-drive sci-fi RPG is the follow-up to FFVII Remake, which impressed so many (including my dear wife, who enjoyed it very much) back in 2020.

This remake of one of the best-loved classic JRPGs of the PS1 era only told part of the story, and thus I guess it’s only natural that there is a lot of interest from people wanting to see how things unfold.

Thus, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been confirmed as the most anticipated game of next year, however, I think it probably also just highlights that people don’t know much about anything these days.

There were several other games mentioned during the event, and you can read about them below…

Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is yet another crime drama by Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. What makes this one interesting is the setting, with the franchise reaching Hawaii.

Star Wars Outlaws is genuinely intriguing. The combination of the Star Wars license and Ubisoft going big on a story adventure has real blockbuster potential. I haven’t seen enough of it to get really excited though…

The final game in the list is Tekken 8. Rumour has it that it will be a radical departure from Tekken 7, with completely non-violent puzzle based gameplay…

As you can see from this graphic below, The Game Awards is due to take place on December 7. You can vote for Hades II here.

Still with us? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked rogues, the following articles represent a huge collection of the best roguelike games ever made.

The Best Roguelike Games: great roguelites, deckbuilders, RPGs, bullet heavens, and more

Next, there are genre-specific lists that delve into the best roguelike games of all types. I’ve pulled out the best examples from each category, alongside the links to more in-depth articles!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.

Great bullet heavens and auto-shooters: Vampire Survivors | There could be only one choice for this category, given how all other games are called survivors-likes for a reason!

Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.

Brilliant roguelite top-down and third-person shooters: Returnal | Bit of a broad one, but with our other favourite action-roguelites featured elsewhere, we were obliged to mention Returnal here.

Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.

Strategy Roguelikes: FTL Faster Than Light | Another classic roguelike that we’re still playing years after launch.

Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2  | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
