This morning, the first thing I did, after my usual pot of coffee and some yelling at the sky, was check in to see who had won what at last night’s The Game Awards.

FWIW, I voted for Hades II wherever I could; however, looking at the competition, it wasn’t a huge surprise to see that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 cleaned up with a number of awards at this year’s big show, including the most coveted of all: Game of the Year.

Laughably, this included Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game, which made me laugh tears of absurd despair into my coffee as I contemplated the millions of publisher dollars that got spent on it.

But I digress. I’m not here to tell you how silly The Game Awards are; I’m here to tell you that our entry in the race won at least one of the events it was entered for.

It feels like sports day at school again, with our Hades II coming first in the Best Action Game race! Huge congrats to Supergiant Games – you deserved better, but I was glad to see you got something!

What else happened?

In as few words as possible… Of course, there were several big announcements during the show, including a return for Tomb Raider, and the super-exciting reveal of a spiritual successor to KotOR called Star Wars: Fate of The Old Republic. Casey Hudson’s on the case, and I’m really looking forward to this.

A new Divinity game got announced from the Baldur’s Gate 3 team at Larian, and that’s not to be sniffed at either. In fact, while we’re on the subject of top-down fantasy RPGs, there’s more Diablo IV content in the works, too. I approve because I’ve been enjoying this as my current non-roguish game, so more new stuff to play will be great.

As someone with an interest in both Creative Assembly and Warhammer, the reveal of the studio’s upcoming 40k game has me very intrigued. I enjoyed the first Control, so I’m also intrigued by the prospect of Control: Resonant, Remedy’s full sequel to the supernatural action-adventure.

The big reveal, at least as far as we’re concerned here at Rogueliker, is the news that Housemarque’s Returnal follow-up, Saros, has a release date of April 30, 2026. Check out the pre-order trailer for that below.
