I’ve been a busy boy today, but I’ve got just enough energy left in the bank to tell you about a little demo that I tried last night.
Now admittedly, I didn’t play it for hours, but I have to say that my expectations were exceeded during my limited time with it (there was a really disappointing football match that I had to watch – don’t ask).
Developed by RuneHeads, Journey to the Void is an upcoming deckbuilder with turn-based combat elements, but yet it also seems to have an emphasis on making impactful decisions (narrative ones, if I understand that correctly).
Working through the tutorial elements gave the chibi-esque visuals time to grow on me, although it’s worth noting that I’ve got a lot of grey hair now and my 14-year-old son would be much more acclimatised to the game’s borderline cutesy visual style.
You draw cards and play them, with your actions transferring to the grid above. Everything is big and bold, but also it felt quite measured, as I played cards from different decks and moved my avatar around grid based environments filled with monsters. It’s simple, clean, and accessible.
Finally, if you’re already in the loop on this one and have played the game already, hit the Steam link above for a full run-down of all the things that have been added since the last demo, because it seems quite extensive!
