Race the Sun is a game that I own on more than one device, but it was the game’s update on Steam that I noticed today. In the accompanying post, developer Flippfly confirmed that a sequel announcement is coming, and to this I say: happy days!
Race the Sun is a minimalist racing game about piloting your sleek spaceship at maximum speed, trying to keep up with the setting sun while dodging a myriad of objects in a procedurally generated assault course.
It’s available on Android, iOS, PC (Linux, Mac, and Windows), PS3+4+Vita, Wii U, and Xbone, and I have fond memories of crashing a lot on Xbox and then again on PC.
The studio behind the game, Flippfly, went on to make a roguelite (that I’ve not played, I confess) called Whisker Squadron: Survivor, which is how many of you will be aware of them, and why I mentioned that game in the headline. Anyway, I digress…
Race The Sun update 1.52 has just dropped, and it’s a minor content patch for the original game, in the grand scheme of things. However, nestled at the end of the post is the news that I’m excited about. Here’s the Steam post, detailing the changes and confirmation of a new game in the works!
- Fixed daily leaderboards
- Improved controller detection
- Fixed newsfeed on main menu
- Upgraded VR support to use OpenXR
Stay tuned sequel announcement coming soon!
That’s all I’ve got for you, but once I know more about Race the Sun 2, or whatever Flippfly decides to call it, I’ll let you know here!
