Realm of Ink is a promising action-roguelite currently working its way through Early Access. I really enjoyed the game as it was at launch, but it was also clear that there was room for it to grow. (Check out my Early Access review if you’d like to know more.)

Today we got the first big content update for the game since launch, and it adds quite a bit to mix up the attack-focused synergies already present in the game.

The update adds three new Ink Gem Powers, 21 new Perks, and a Pick System that activates once you’ve completed six successful runs and “lets players choose their starting Ink Gem Power and Perk.”

Not only does this shake-up the game’s evolving meta, we’ve also been given a load of info with regards to the Realm of Ink roadmap over the next few months, at least up until the 1.0 release.

The Realm of Ink Roadmap

Roadmap timetable that details the content being added to Realm of Ink over five major

As you’ll note in the image above, this first major update is focused on adding Ink Gem Powers and game-altering Perk Items.

We’ll be getting more of the same in November and December along with new and revised Martial Ark Skills, and then in January we’ll get the final act and a boss to beat.

In the trailer underneath the graphic you can see below, you’ll note that the developer shares a bunch of potential new character configurations as well as sharing a section that details the Realm of Ink roadmap. It is there and in the attached infographic that Leap Studios confirms that the plan is to continue supporting their stylish action-RPG into 2025 with more content updates and DLC.

Head over to Realm of Ink’s Steam page if you want to get into the nitty gritty of what is included in the October update, otherwise, scroll down for the trailer below!

Still with us? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked rogues, the following articles represent a huge collection of the best roguelike games ever made.

The Best Roguelike Games: great roguelites, deckbuilders, RPGs, bullet heavens, and more

Next, there are genre-specific lists that delve into the best roguelike games of all types. I’ve pulled out the best examples from each category, alongside the links to more in-depth articles!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.

Great bullet heavens and auto-shooters: Vampire Survivors | There could be only one choice for this category, given how all other games are called survivors-likes for a reason!

Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.

Brilliant roguelite top-down and third-person shooters: Returnal | Bit of a broad one, but with our other favourite action-roguelites featured elsewhere, we were obliged to mention Returnal here.

Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.

Strategy Roguelikes: FTL Faster Than Light | Another classic roguelike that we’re still playing years after launch.

Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2  | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
