Good news, Dear Reader: Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts just launched for PC (Win), PS5, and Xbox Series, bringing a significant injection of content to (nearly) everyone’s favourite co-op roguelike.
The paid-for expansion adds two new playable characters to the third-person shooter: the Acolyte (unlockable) and the Enforcer (unlocked by default). While the Enforcer doesn’t sound like a very subtle character, the Acolyte could be very interesting.
According to Gearbox (and they’d know), the Acolyte “dances across the battlefield, toying with her enemies and bargaining for more power with her own life force. Combine close-range glaive attacks with ranged strikes that chip away at an enemy’s soul.”
It’s not just new survivors; there’s also a selection of new enemies, bosses, and, of course, several new maps to explore.
As per usual, only one player in the party needs to own the expansion for everyone to have temporary access to the new maps and whatnot.

On top of the paid-for Hallowed Concepts expansion, there’s also a free update for everyone to download.
The free content update also adds a bunch of new stuff, including new abilities for six existing characters. Everything is detailed in the patch notes on Steam, which are quite extensive, as they cover additions made to both the base game and previous DLC.
One nugget I noticed in the notes is a new optional “Karma” system, which apparently has the potential to make the final confrontation on the moon much more challenging. I look forward to finding out more about that and trying out the new characters in due course.
