Fans of proper turn-based roguelikes aren’t treated to that many major franchises, let’s be honest, but one of the few series that fits the bill is Shiren, by Spike Chunsoft.
The most recent entry in this storied franchise is called Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island. Now, I think we can all agree that the title is a bit unwieldy, but now we’ve got both a slightly longer and a much shorter version to deal with!
That’s right, Dear Reader, the sixth mainline game in the series is out now on Android and iOS, and it’s got two new names, Shiren: Serpentcoil Island and/or Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island Plus. Take your pick.
The mobile version of the game is a premium release, and it’s more expensive than most games on both platforms (around 20 bucks, depending on where you live). However, mobile gamers will get access to the full experience, including all paid-for post-launch DLC.
Naturally, the mobile version of Shiren: Serpentcoil Island has platform-specific controls, five characters, more than 30 dungeons, and cross-play with players on existing platforms. Tempted?
