I love an interesting fusion of ideas and themes, and Talaka promises Afro-Brazilian mythology delivered via hand-painted art, all wrapped up in a roguelite system, which you know I’m all for. I have to admit: I’m intrigued by this upcoming roguelite from Acclaim and Potato Kid.
It won’t be long before I am able to satisfy my curiosity when Talaka is playable via an upcoming beta test. The two-week closed beta starts on July 16th and runs through to July 30th, although sign-ups are available right now over on Acclaim’s Discord server (find the #talaka-beta-request channel).
“We are so excited to get feedback from players in this beta,” wrote Paulo Luis Santos, studio chief at Potato Kid. “We have been deep down in development for quite some time, and it’s easy to get tunnel vision. We are confident that fresh perspectives from gamers will go a long way in polishing and improving Talaka, making it the best it can be.”
If you’d like to see the striking art of Talaka in motion, there’s a trailer below which shows the side-scroller in action. It looks really vibrant and colourful, and it’s nice to see a game like this that manages to look striking but doesn’t look like a Mike Mignola comic.
Finally, this story of myths gone rogue and dreamlike platforming is due to land on PC and “modern consoles” next year, at some point in early 2027. More details when I have ’em, or wishlist on Steam.
