I’ve been playing Texas Hold ‘Em to varying degrees of success throughout my adult life, and so this ongoing and expanding trend for roguelike deckbuilders with a poker theme is one that I am very much enjoying (another one with a new demo out recently is Cascadou).
With Balatro bringing this sort of poker-infused card playing to the masses, there are always opportunities for capable card sharks to make a name for themselves, and the latest to capture my attention is The Devil’s Due, from Games People Play.
The headline is that a new demo version of The Devil’s Due has dropped as part of The Winter OTK Games Expo, and it better shows off the game’s absurd character designs, and some really interesting gameplay mechanics around cheating at poker.
Honestly, though, The Devil’s Due had my attention when I read about the game’s Monty Python influence. You see the guy in the screenshot above? The trailer below shows him popping like Mr Creosote in The Meaning of Life, and that moment alone had me sold.
The Steam page is accessible right here, and you can either download the new demo or wishlist the game for later. Either way, the plan is for The Devil’s Due to land in Q3, 2026, which is obviously still some way off in the distance.
