If you’re the sort who buys lots of bundles or likes to grab a bargain – and I’m not judging, I promise; I’m really bad when it comes to that sort of thing – then you may have a Steam library stuffed full of great games that hardly ever see the light of day.
This is a common affliction for roguelikers the world over, I’m sure, and so I think there may be some mild intrigue and maybe even genuine interest in The Pyramid, a different way to play your games that is coming to Steam PC (Linux, Mac, and Windows) on the same day as GTA6 hits consoles: November 19.
It’s essentially a roguelike roulette, where challenge cards for supported games are thrown at you at random. You can also mix and match to create your own decks if you wish, and modding support is built in from the start, with players encouraged to create their own via the Workshop.
The key thing to know is that you can only play challenges associated with games that you already own. It’s not a collection of minigames, but rather a framework to get extra mileage out of your collection. Games like Isaac, Balatro, Slay the Spire, and Tiny Rogues were mentioned, and there are more than 150 confirmed.
The Pyramid is an ongoing 10-year (!) project by Olexa. It started on Tabletop Simulator, moved on to itch.io, and is now migrating to Steam. In fact, the new Steam version credits a number of devs (including codeWonderland Development, Subsonic, g0m, Funguy, Nova, Mr Tortle, Strawberry Milk System (grackledev), and TeqieLemon).
If you’ve got a bunch of old games that you know would benefit from a bit of attention, head over to The Pyramid’s new Steam page and hit the ol’ wishlist button. In the meantime, how many games do you own in the promo trailer below?
