I rather enjoyed The Royal Writ when it first hit PC last year. In my review, I said nice words about the roguelike deckbuilder when it launched in August, and here we are a year later, with the game preparing to invade consoles and show the peasants there who’s boss.
It might be a deckbuilder on the face of it, but The Royal Writ also has a really interesting lane mechanic. In short, the closer your units get to your enemies, the more powerful they are, but the more likely you are to lose them forever. It’s an interesting setup that creates plenty of tension, which contrasts nicely with the game’s sense of humour.
Developer Save Sloth Studios, with able support from Yogscast Games, is bringing this colourful deckbuilder to PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series on September 10. On that day, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will also be able to play it, the lucky devils.
If that’s not enough to quench your thirst for knowledge, there’s a shiny new trailer for the console release date announcement, and you can check it out below.
