I’ve been dipping in and out of the world of Warhammer for as long as I can remember. I first started playing back when the miniatures were still metal, and I got back into it again more recently, not to play so much, but because I find painting the minis therapeutic. I even helped launch a Warhammer-focused website a while back.

As you’ve already deduced by now, I’m also quite fond of Vampire Survivors (in fact, I’ve got an article about the game and others just like it right here), and that being so, today’s news of an upcoming Warhammer-themed auto-shooter is just a little bit exciting.

The headline is that Auroch Digital – the team behind the 40K shooter Boltgun – has agreed a deal with Vampire Survivors creator poncle to use their engine to make Warhammer Survivors – which is exactly what you think it is based on the name and the screenshots.

This new game will call upon characters and weapons from across both the sci-fi and fantasy strands of Warhammer. I’ve just been working through all of the press materials and so far these are the most important details that I’ve managed to extract.

  • Malum Caedo, from Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, Cadian Shock Trooper, Trooper Kozlowski, and the Space Marine Intercessor, Brother Luca.
  • In Age of Sigmar, you’ve got the likes of Neave Blacktalon, Gotrek Gurnisson, and Sharynn Azurwrath, Stormcast Eternal Vanquisher.
  • Weaponwise, Sharynn has her Celestial Greatsword, plus, of course, there’s the iconic Boltgun, and the Astartes Chainsword and Whirlwind Axes are mentioned.
  • My favourite 40k villains, the Tyranids, appear to be one of the main bads, along with the Skaven. In this area, Auroch Digital is spoiled for choice and I’m really looking forward to seeing what they do.

If you’d like to join me in wishlisting the shit out of this, head over to the Steam page via this link. As for a release date for Warhammer Survivors, all we know for now is that it’s coming in 2026. Now, behold the trailer, if that sort of thing appeals, of course.

The Best Roguelike Games: great roguelites, deckbuilders, RPGs, bullet heavens, and more

Next, there are genre-specific lists that delve into the best roguelike games of all types. I’ve pulled out the best examples from each category, alongside the links to more in-depth articles!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.

Great bullet heavens and auto-shooters: Vampire Survivors | There could be only one choice for this category, given how all other games are called survivors-likes for a reason!

Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.

Brilliant roguelite top-down and third-person shooters: Returnal | Bit of a broad one, but with our other favourite action-roguelites featured elsewhere, we were obliged to mention Returnal here.

Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.

Strategy Roguelikes: FTL Faster Than Light | Another classic roguelike that we’re still playing years after launch.

Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2  | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
