I’m fond, that much is clear, but it’s not just me for once! Balatro is resonating very strongly with a huge number of people, and that’s why the game has just passed the impressive milestone of selling one million copies (I caught the news on Twitter.com).
It’s rather unusual for an indie roguelike deckbuilder to put up such incredible numbers so quickly, so credit where credit’s due, not only to LocalThunk but also publisher Playstack.
The achievement is made even more remarkable when you consider the game was removed from certain store fronts for a time. This happened when a ratings board reneged on a previously agreed age rating, bumping it from 3+ to an 18+ overnight. You can read more on that debacle right here, Dear Reader.
In the meantime, if you want to see what all the fuss is about for yourself, Balatro is out now on Steam PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Xbox platforms! Links to all can be found on the official Balatro website.
