I think a big fat congratulations are in order to Kenny Sun and his friends over at Devolver Digital, after this week it was confirmed that Ball X Pit has been played by a crisp one million players since it launched back in October.
That’s not “sold copies” because some of those folks will have played via Game Pass – including me – but nevertheless, one million players in less than two months is a remarkable achievement for a game like Ball X Pit, even if it has a publisher as good as Devolver.
To mark the achievement, we also got a nice little announcement to keep us excited for the coming year. There are no less than three free expansions confirmed for the game in 2026, taking us up to the summer and who knows what next. They are:
January 2026 | Regal Update
April 2026 | Shadow Update
July 2026 | Naturalist Update
As part of these expansions, we’re promised fresh characters and passives, as well as new balls and the resulting evolutions they’ll bring with them.
I don’t know about you, but I’m excited enough to watch the trailer above and find out more!
Finally, as I was putting the finishing touches to this missive I also found this little gem: The Gossips of Ballbylon. Enjoy!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.
Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!
Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.
Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.
Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2 | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
