Almost 30 years since its first outing, Carmageddon is gearing to hit the road again, this time as a roguelite racer. With the release date of Rogue Shift drawing closer, developer 34BigThings has shared some juicy new gameplay details in a new post on the PlayStation Blog.

Rogue Shift is set in a bleak near future where zombies, known as the Wasted, outnumber humans 10,000 to 1. Each night swarms of zombies take to the streets, forcing survivors to barricade themselves in high-rise buildings. The only way to survive its deadly Carmageddon races.

The blog notes that no two runs are alike. Using credits earned from winning races and defeating opponents, you can purchase permanent upgrades for your ride. As you progress, you’ll be able to unlock new synergies and archetypes to create the ultimate killing machine.

There’s said to be 15 unlockable vehicles each with their own drivetrain, weight, center of mass, suspensions, tire friction and pressure, and response to steering. On top of this, you will also be able to unlock and mount 13 weapon classes and 80+ perks for some unstoppable synergies.

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is planned to launch on PC (Win), PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series in early 2026.
