Dice are brilliant, aren’t they!?! I love the feeling of a well-weighted die in my hand, and given how much you can spend on a nice set of dice these days, I’m not alone in thoroughly enjoying these tactile objects.

Dicebuilders are brilliant, too. This burgeoning sub-category of the deckbuilding genre is all about manipulating dice and rolling the numbers you need to advance. In Jinx It, a new dicebuilder by Manabrew Studios, that’s exactly what you do, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

In Jinx It, which was announced today, you need to turn your dice rolls into attacks, and then use that damage to take down your opponents one by one, as you attempt to reach your final goal: a rematch with Jinx, the Unlucky One.

Yeah, a rematch. The first time you played Jinx you lost, and that’s why you’ve got to battle a bunch of other people who also lost to Jinx, and fight your way back to the table for a rematch that will hopefully be a bit luckier for you next time.

The most interesting gameplay twist, as far as I can tell, is how your die scores can be included in the different hands (sets and straights were both mentioned).

Your enemies offer different mechanics, so there’ll be no sitting still as you move between tables. In between matches, there’s a forge where you can upgrade your dice, and you can equip lucky charms to further boost your scores, as you look to build an engine capable of getting you back in a match against the eponymous Jinx.

So far, the only platform mentioned is Steam PC (Windows), but the new page is live right now, so hit the link if you’d like to wishlist this quirky-looking dicebuilder. Now: behold the promo trailer!
