Nearly eight years after its last update, Nuclear Throne has received a surprise beta build on Steam.
Before getting into the details, let me set your expectations by saying this is more of a quality of life update. That said, it brings some welcome improvements like 60/120 FPS support, different aspect ratios, and a new controls menu. Click here for the full change log.
To install the update, you just need to right-click on the game in your Steam library, click properties, then betas, select openbeta_win64, and then the update will be waiting for you to download.
Fortunately, if you don’t own the game on PC, developer Vlambeer has teased that it plans to release the update for the main game.
Released in 2015, Nuclear Throne is regarded as an action roguelike classic with it holding a score of 89 on Metacritic for its PC version. We enjoyed it that much that we included it in our Best Roguelike Shooters and our 20 Great Co-op Roguelikes lists.

Still with me? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked roguelikes, this website is absolutely chock full of them. Head over to the Guides Page for a concentrated hit of roguish games, organised via sub-genre and platform.
What’s more, there are always going to be new lists for emerging trends and fresh titles to highlight. This is because my backlog is embarrassingly long, and so I’m always trying to balance the new games that arrive in my inbox with playing the stuff I already have.
