I’m reworking this missive with an update from developer One More Game, as there is another limited-time demo for players to check out, just like the one detailed further down in the post below.

The next test for SWAPMEAT, a third-person roguelite shooter with grim twist, goes under the catchy name of Meat Lab 6 and it runs from July 17 at 10am PT / 6pm BST through to July 23 at 5pm PT (that’s like 1am here in the UK).

The demo sign-ups are being coordinated over on the game’s official web page, and if you bring three friends with you, you’ll all get in together – while stocks last, of course. And co-op really does look like the order of the day here, with players able to loot body parts and swap them out on the fly, all while battling through Risk of Rain 2-esque alien worlds.

Below you’ll see the new accolades trailer as well as a quick round-up of changes from the previous demo, and this bit will make a whole lot more sense to people who have already played the game.

  • Revamped First-Time User Experience
  • Updated Elemental Condition and Damage System
  • Reimagined Mutations
  • Streamlined Boss Encounters
  • Refreshed HUD
  • Significant Balancing and Quality-of-Life Updates

Original: This week, our inbox has been stuffed with some absolutely insane looking titles within the roguelike space.

Earlier this week, I covered the paranoid horror survival roguelite, It Has My Face, and today’s spotlight goes to SWAPMEAT, a third-person shooter rogue where players harvest the limbs of their alien foes.

Developed by indie studio One More Game, SWAPMEAT was just revealed to be launching in 2025 on PC (Win, Mac).

In SWAPMEAT, you play as the latest employee of Rangus Meats, a multi-galactic food conglomerate on a never-ending hunt for the perfect protein. Your goal is to drop onto hostile planets, harvest the locals, swap out your squishy parts, and survive long enough to file your expense report.

In a short video on the game’s website, director Jamie Stormbreaker likened its co-op action to Hades, Risk of Rain 2, and Helldivers. He also mentioned that it has Destiny-style raids and a sense of humour that will click if you love Ricky & Morty or Invader Zim.

The developer also shared the dates for one of the game’s final play tests prior to launch. Live now until 22nd May, players can sign up now, if they are looking for an early taste of this wacky meat em’ up.

You can check out the new trailer for SWAPMEAT below:

Still with us? Of course you are! If you want to keep reading about great hand-picked rogues, the following articles represent a huge collection of the best roguelike games ever made.

The Best Roguelike Games: great roguelites, deckbuilders, RPGs, bullet heavens, and more

Next, there are genre-specific lists that delve into the best roguelike games of all types. I’ve pulled out the best examples from each category, alongside the links to more in-depth articles!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.

Great bullet heavens and auto-shooters: Vampire Survivors | There could be only one choice for this category, given how all other games are called survivors-likes for a reason!

Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.

Brilliant roguelite top-down and third-person shooters: Returnal | Bit of a broad one, but with our other favourite action-roguelites featured elsewhere, we were obliged to mention Returnal here.

Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.

Strategy Roguelikes: FTL Faster Than Light | Another classic roguelike that we’re still playing years after launch.

Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2  | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
