Earlier this afternoon The Rogue Prince of Persia performed the ever-elusive shadow-drop and launched simultaneously across PC (Steam, Ubisoft Connect, and EGS), PS5, and Xbox Series – it even landed on Amazon Luna, whatever that is…

There’s also some good news for Game Pass PS Plus Premium subscribers: The Rogue Prince of Persia is also available on both services. It’s include in Ubisoft+, too.

There’s a Switch 2 version of the game in the pipeline, but there’s no confirmed release date as yet.

Our Kieran is a lifelong fan of the series and has been playing the newest entry in the Ubisoft franchise over the weekend. We had hoped to get our review ready for this moment, but good things come to those who wait and you’re going to have to hold on for a little while longer for all the opinions.

In the meantime, the essentials you need to know about this latest PoP adventure is that it’s the handiwork of Evil Empire, the studio that previously developed a bunch of the DLC for Dead Cells. They know how to platform, basically.

For what it’s worth, I enjoyed the game as it moved through Early Access, and had a jolly time when it first launched last summer, and again after the major overhaul mentioned in the trailer below.

It’s also worth remembering that the final 1.0 update added a bunch of new content for existing players, including two new biomes (Port of Ctesiphon and the Besieged Palace), plus the final chapter a big bad to go with it.

Finally, rather than a boring launch trailer, I like this approach from the developers, where you get to find out a bit more about the project in this behind the scenes feature!

The Best Roguelike Games: great roguelites, deckbuilders, RPGs, bullet heavens, and more

Next, there are genre-specific lists that delve into the best roguelike games of all types. I’ve pulled out the best examples from each category, alongside the links to more in-depth articles!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.

Great bullet heavens and auto-shooters: Vampire Survivors | There could be only one choice for this category, given how all other games are called survivors-likes for a reason!

Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.

Brilliant roguelite top-down and third-person shooters: Returnal | Bit of a broad one, but with our other favourite action-roguelites featured elsewhere, we were obliged to mention Returnal here.

Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.

Strategy Roguelikes: FTL Faster Than Light | Another classic roguelike that we’re still playing years after launch.

Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2  | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
