I spotted this in my inbox a few days ago and intended to write something about it at the time, but things happened and I never got around to it. Today is my chance for redemption, then.

Speaking of redemption, in Witchfire, the gothic first-person shooter by The Astronauts, you’re a sinner infused with occult powers and sent to battle an all-powerful with for your salvation. It’s intense stuff, and this challenging shooter has been out on Epic Games Store for almost a year now.

I’ve already taken a first look at Witchfire here, although that preview doesn’t include any details about the newest batch of content that has landed for the game. The Wailing Tower update brings a new region, enemies, and more to the game.

According to the press release, the “patch brings elements of cosmic horror to Witchfire, and offers the first new raid map since the game’s release. Arcana power-ups now feature “prophecies” and “curses” to benefit and challenge players, respectively, while the souls of fallen preyers can be called upon to aid you in your quest against new foes.”

You can find more detailed patch notes on the official site, if you’re into that sort of thing. Interestingly, there’s also a granular progress update accessible via the same link, which tells you exactly how far the devs think they are in terms of their overall vision of the game.

As for me, I think I’m going to wait a little while before I play and then write about Witchfire again, because on the horizon there’s a Steam release, which feels like the perfect opportunity to dig back in. You can wishlist the game if you’re waiting for it to land on Valve’s platform, and we know that it will appear there at some point in 2024. If I had to guess I’d say on or just after September 9th, because that will be exactly one year after the game first landed on Epic…
