Bandai Namco seems to be going all in on roguelikey things at the moment.
I just played – and enjoyed, for the most part – the publisher’s new deckbuilder, Battle Train. Of even greater significance to the wider gaming community is, of course, the small matter of Elden Ring: Nightreign, which just dropped on multiple platforms.
Next up on the publisher’s hit list is Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree by Brownies Inc. The game is a Hades-inspired roguelite ARPG with exquisite vibes, silky-smooth art, and slick-looking action.
This one is skipping the Early Access phase that we see so often in this genre, and thus I’ve not had a chance to play it yet, but mark my words: I shall as soon as I can. I won’t have to wait long either, as Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree is out on September 19.
With that date edging ever closer, the PR machine is now fully up and running, and the latest look at the game is the above gameplay overview trailer, which I just found over on Steam. Well, kinda…
You see, if I had checked the trailer dates on YouTube before writing all of the above, I’d have discovered that the gameplay overview trailer being promoted is actually three weeks old, despite being shared just a couple of hours ago. Silly me.
However, I’m not one to tempt you in under false pretences, and after digging through the publisher’s YT channel, I found the Guardian trailer below, which was posted only yesterday.
Just in case you thirst for gameplay wasn’t sated by two new-ish trailers, below you’ll find the new prologue trailer, which also only landed a few days ago.
As you’ll see across all three, the art and gameplay looks good, and the core concept sounds fun, too. Players will take on the role of the eponymous Towa and look to save their home from an ancient evil, all with the help of the so-called Guardians of the Sacred Tree. It sounds both accessible and wholesome.
Finally, I’ll sum things up by reminding you that Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree is scheduled to release on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series on September 19, and you’ll find relevant platform links over on the game’s official site, if you want them.
