I was out of action last week; otherwise, I would have already caught this, because one game that I’m very much looking forward to playing again is edging ever closer to launch.
Witchfire is the game; The Astronauts is the developer; and the release date window has been narrowed further with confirmation that the studio plans to launch version 1.0 during “late Q4 2026”.
The news comes from an extended Q&A that I just finished reading over on Steam. There are loads of interesting tidbits in there, although if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know most of it already.
The final 1.0 update is going to add a bunch of content to the roguelite extraction shooter, with a complete story and a “cohesive, challenging, and rewarding 1.0 experience”, the studio’s main target for launch. Nothing really new there, then.

The studio also confirmed that there are zero plans for co-op, which is fair enough given the focus of the game and the way it has been built. They noted that there are no plans to enforce a progress wipe unless it is unavoidable, although a restart for 1.0 will be recommended.
I was also pleased to see more written about the studio’s commitment to accessibility options in the game. GG, folks!
Finally, the groundwork for the console version of the game, which I asked about in my own interview with The Astronauts, is underway. Given the plan to launch Witchfire in late Q4 2026, the console versions will likely follow in 2027.
As soon as I know more, I’ll update you here on this page!
