We’ve got a home-made version of Knucklebones somewhere in the room behind me. If you’re not familiar, I’m referring to the dice game that features in Cult of the Lamb.
Given my family’s predilection for ruling over cults and playing tabletop games, you can imagine my intrigue when I just saw the news that there’s a proper board game on the way that is based on Massive Monster’s action-roguelite.
Now, before you get too excited, let me temper your expectations by noting that you can’t buy this today. You can’t even pledge to get it in the future, however, there is a Kickstarter page and you can follow the project to get notified when it goes live in November.
If you do eventually take this one to the table, you’ll do so by playing as one of four prophets from the game. Therein you must battle the bishops of the Old Faith to earn victory points. The aim of the game: be the best woodland cult!
Playing as either the Lamb, the Goat, the Owl, or the Snake, you’ll engage in a mixture of activities reminiscent of the action-roguelite it’s based on, with dungeon-crawling on the one hand, and a bit of worker placement on the other.
It’s also worth considering the developer behind the project. Paper Fort Games is based here in the UK, and the team has previously worked on a board game adaptation of Terraria. They’ve certainly got experience handling big IPs, and so I await more details with interest.
