As regulars here already know by now, I love me a good roguelite mode, and the latest game to get one isn’t even out yet! That’s because Painkiller is due to hit PC, PS5, and Xbox Series later this year, on October 21 (here’s the Steam link, if you want to wishlist).
And so, as per the press pack I just worked through, I can confirm that when Painkiller does land next month, it’ll do some complete with a secondary game mode called Rogue Angel, which will sit separate to the main campaign and offer a standalone co-op experience.
According to developer Anshar Studios, it sounds like the focus is going to be on multiplayer carnage, with players able to team up with two of their most angelic friends and go on a three-player rampage through a special procedurally-generated part of purgatory.
The descriptions I’ve read make mention of proc-gen arenas, tarot cards, weapons (surprised by that one), items, unpredictable drops, brutal enemies, and epic bosses. If all that sounds delightful, behold the new Painkiller trailer below…
