Like a lot of you, we’re not big fans of generative AI art here at Rogueliker, and its use in games is a firm no for us. With our stance on the matter thus, it was a bit disappointing to see the team behind Risk of Rain being caught using it publically.

In a post over on Xwitter, the studio thanked the community for spotting the offending post, sharing the following message:

Thanks to you all, we realized that the background of the last image we posted was AI-generated. Thanks for spotting that!

While this was an unintentional mistake, it’s one we take full responsibility for and we are sending the designer to the Void Fields as punishment.

We have pulled the image down and will be more careful about that in the future!

In a follow-up post, the studio spokesperson wrote of the offending post: “The new Acrid was real. You will see him again soon.” Just in case you were wondering…

Risk of Rain 2: Alloyed Collective

“Soon” will probably be when we get the next major expansion for Risk of Rain 2, the DLC otherwise known as Alloyed Collective.

Once again Gearbox is using the much-appreciated format first used on the original ROR2 DLC, which gives all players access to the extra content if only one person in the party has purchased it.

This time around there are several reasons why people may want to jump back in, including six new stages, two survivors (one returning, one fresh-faced), as well as the usual sprinkling of new enemies, drones, bosses, and items.

There’s still no firm release date for Alloyed Collective, so stay tuned for more on that. FWIW, here’s what we know so far, thanks to Kieran’s write-up back in May.
