The update is here and it’s much more interesting than I suspected it would be thanks to the addition of couple of new Artifacts on top of the new Dead Cells themed alt skin.

First though, there’s new map, Verdant Falls. According to the presser it’s “a biodiverse area of Petrichor V full of lush vegetation, billowing waterfalls, and galactic wreckage.”

The new Artifact of Devotion also sounds like a lot of fun. It replaces drones with eggs and works by players “surrendering an item, releasing a Lemurian to fight alongside them. The sacrificed items imbue their effects on the Lemurians, who grow and evolve as they feast on your foes!”

The other new item, the so-called Artifact of Delusion, “closes all chests after a teleporter event, allowing them to be later re-opened by players. But there’s a twist: you have to correctly identify which item previously came out of the chest. Guess correctly, and new riches are yours! Guess wrong, and you’ll lose the item.”

Original: The Prisoner from Dead Cells is heading to Risk of Rain 2 in a new DLC crossover, as was just announced during The Triple-i Initiative.

The iconic character from Dead Cells is heading to ROR2 as a free alt skin for an existing character, the Mercenary. Take a looksy:

On top of that, the new Devotion update was on show. Another free update, this one will had a new map and two new artifacts to the game.

If Risk of Rain 2 is your jam, then there are some Seekers of the Storm trailers for you via this link if you want to see what else is coming to the game.

The Best Roguelike Games: great roguelites, deckbuilders, RPGs, bullet heavens, and more

Next, there are genre-specific lists that delve into the best roguelike games of all types. I’ve pulled out the best examples from each category, alongside the links to more in-depth articles!

The best turn-based roguelikes: Caves of Qud | There are some seriously incredible turn-based roguelikes out there. Of all the modern games, these are the closest to the original Rogue.

Great bullet heavens and auto-shooters: Vampire Survivors | There could be only one choice for this category, given how all other games are called survivors-likes for a reason!

Awesome first-person rogues: Gunfire Reborn | We almost went with Blue Prince for this spot, but most people checking out first-person rogues probably want to wield a gun, you know?!

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.

Brilliant roguelite top-down and third-person shooters: Returnal | Bit of a broad one, but with our other favourite action-roguelites featured elsewhere, we were obliged to mention Returnal here.

Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.

Strategy Roguelikes: FTL Faster Than Light | Another classic roguelike that we’re still playing years after launch.

Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2  | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
