Today appears to be the day for interesting new deckbuilders. The latest announcement I’m happy to pass on is that of Rogue Skies, a new hybrid tactics game all about sky pirates.
Rogue Skies looks like an interesting fusion of ship-to-ship combat with giant cannons, and squad-based combat taking place between boarding parties.
During the action, you’ll be clutching a hand of cards, and switching between airship attacks and moving your units into combat. After that, you’ll be heading to floating cities to upgrade your crew and ship.
At this early stage it’s hard to say too much more, but the trailer embedded below does showcase a really sweet anime-inspired art style and some smooth animations.
All in all, Rogue Skies has made a positive first impression on me and I’m eager to see more, although there’s no word yet on when that’ll be.

Cool roguelike deckbuilders: Balatro | Sorry, Slay the Spire fans, but this poker-solitaire deckbuilder has stolen Mike’s heart and won’t give it back.
Exciting roguelike platformers: Spelunky | Now, don’t get us wrong, Dead Cells is an incredible game, especially with all the DLC switched on. But when it comes to impact, you just can’t beat Spelunky.
Amazing action-roguelites: Hades 2 | And finally, let’s wrap things up with our favourite of them all. There’s no beating the original Hades, although Hades 2 comes pretty close!
