Rising publisher Kakehashi Games and Japanese dev Serial Project just showed off their upcoming hybrid deckbuilding-JRPG adventure, Serial World, at Gamescom in Cologne.

The cute-looking, genre-twisting adventure looks to blend JRPG charm with deckbuilding mechanics, and it sounds like it will be built around Mystery Dungeon style exploration and combat, with overworld progression thrown in for good measure.

Serial World has you steer a boy called Milo and his magical Anima through a number of quirky turn-based combat encounters in the dungeons around Bricktown. There are eight of these so-called Animas waiting to be encountered, and they’ll change up your tactics accordingly.

It sounds like your progression through the game will be measured in changes that happen to the world around you after you wake up every morning. What’s more, the presser mentions a cast of colourful characters to interact with and a mystery that’ll unravel as you work deeper into the game. Intriguing…

The Pokémon vibes are especially strong with this one, and if that sounds like your cup of tea, head on over to Steam and hit the wishlist button ahead of Serial World’s planned launch in 2026.
