If you’ve got even a passing interest in traditional roguelikes, there’s a good chance that you’ve played or at least heard of Caves of Qud.

Freehold’s turn-based RPG is the very definition of a modern roguelike. It has been in development for many years, and has spent almost a decade in Early Access on Steam. During that time we’ve enjoyed nearly weekly updates, plus an open dialogue with the developers about where the game is headed.

Now, after this extended period of Early Access, it’s finally time for version 1.0. We’ve known that the final straight is upon us for a while, but now we have a release date: December 5th, 2024.

In preparation for the update, there’s an ongoing beta for the tutorial mode, which will be added to the main game in due course.

The post over on Steam also confirms that the conclusion to the main questline is imminent, and it’s got multiple endings for players to explore. Given how far I am from seeing the ending myself, that’s not much comfort, but more experienced rogues will no doubt be happy with the news that there are actually multiple endings in sight.
