The Spell Brigade has just been updated with its first major content patch since launch, with the 1.1 Realm Sweep update bringing a load of new content to the Magicka-inspired bullet heaven.
The headline addition is, of course, the new spellcaster who has been added in the update. Eugene is his name, and this little wizard comes with a powerful new Seismic Slam spell. Check him out in the promo art below looking all… lampy!

Elsewhere, The Spell Brigade’s maps have been given some attention. While there is no new environment to play in, the developers at Bolt Blaster have added some variables to existing maps to ensure some differences between runs.
Another effort to spice up each attempt comes via the new objectives. Here’s the full list of the new variants.
- Rifts can now appear as multiple, smaller ones across the map.
- Sacrifice can now appear as a Death Shrine that takes damage from anything within the zone.
- Mushrooms have a chance of either being scared or explosive.
- New Golden Crabs can now appear: a Golden Crablodon, and a Golden Mothercrab that spawns a bunch of tiny Crabs.
- New Statues can now appear that hold bigger enemies.
- Bigger Spell Cores can now appear – these are much heavier and require more handling.
- A darker type of Soul Sludge can now appear and cloud your vision when surrounded by it.
- Mana Beasts have a chance of falling in love with you and will follow you unconditionally.
- A new type of Brazier that generates a new sequence each time that you must copy.
If you want to go through the fine print, there are patch notes over on Steam. If you’d prefer to stick around and find out more about The Spell Brigade, check out my review impressions. Alternatively, you can cast thine eyes across the roadmap below, which suggests that a new realm is on the way in the next major update, whenever that may be.
